Team Nunavut receives Most Sportsmenlike Trophy

Team Nunavut represented the National Aboriginal Fire Fighters Competition, held in Winnipeg Manitoba, August 16 to 21, 2011.

2011 Aboriginal Fire Fighters Competition Team NunavutTeam Nunavut was awarded with the most sportsmenlike trophy.  While the Nunavut team finished in 8th place, the Nunavut Fire Fighting team were recognized for a flawless performance by not having any penalties added to their times.  This was duly noted as an uncommon occurrence as a team rarely goes through the competition without penalties.  The staff of CGS Community Development, the Municipal Training Organization and the Fire Marshal’s Office would like to extend their congratulations to the 2011 Team Nunavut Fire Fighters.

Team Members were, Coach Paul Kowmageak (Cape Dorset), Captain Norman Qavvik (Kugaaruk), Randy Idlout (Resolute Bay), Cody Evaloakjuk (Coral Harbour), Jollie Enoogoo (Pond Inlet) and Troy Innukshuk and George Aksadjuak (Rankin Inlet). They were accompanied by Frederick Morrison (Pond Inlet) of the Fire Marshal’s Office.
