At the MTO's recent Annual General Meeting in November, the membership voted for representatives to serve on its Board of Directors.  

At the first Board Meeting, those members selected, from amungst themselves, the officers of the MTO.  The staff of the MTO are please to announce the following MTO Board members for the next year:

SHOUT OUT TO TEAM NUNAVUT!

TEAM NUNAVUT WON THE MOST SPORTSMANLIKE AWARD and placed 5th overall in the high intensity NATIONAL Aboriginal Fire Fighter Competition in Six Nations, Ontario. Congratulations to TEAM NUNAVUT and to the Fire Marshall's Office staff. And thanks to all the Fire Fighters who serve across this vast land of Nunavut.

Nunavut's Aboriginal Fire Fighter Competition happened in Iqaluit August 1-7, 2016. All week participants practiced drills in an attempt to narrow the group down to six individuals for the national team.

Participants in Kugluktuk and Resolute Bay's Class 3/ Air Brakes course recieved over 15 hours of driving practice and are ready to test for their Class 3 licence.

CGS tasked the Provincial/Territorial Official Committee on local government to update the research they conducted on dust suppression products in 2009.

Attached you will find the updated research report. There are a few new products but, as in 2009, the cost still favours calcium chloride.

There are more than 300 ground searches for Nunavummiut per year.  Preliminary figures show the number of searches in Nunavut  has increased in recent years!

The MTO would like all municipalities to make use of the following developed guides and manuals for dust control.

The MTO Board of Directors is pleased to annouce this year's recipient of the Elwood Johnston Memorial Bursary; David Saila from Cape Dorset.

David is a full time water truck driver for the Hamlet and volunteer firefighter.  David has taken numerous courses through the MTO and has shown real dedication to professional development through training.  This committment was recognized by the Cape Dorset SAO; Ed Devereaux, who nominated David.  In the photo below you can see Cape Dorset Mayor Palaya Qiatsuk (left), presenting David Saila with his plaque and cheque for $2,500.
