Other Training

MTO provides other training which is targeted at meeting specific and urgent needs of municipalities.  These needs are identified through ongoing municipal evaluations, training needs surveys, the municipal performance measurement report, previous years’ programming, responses to new technology, or regulatory changes and audit reports.

Class 3/Air Brakes training provides the skills & knowledge for new drivers to test for their licence. It gives licensed drivers enhanced safety & vehicle management skills.

Professional Drivers’ Upgrading delivered in partnership with the Alberta Motor Association. Training and certification were provided in: safe performance backing procedures, vehicle handling & control, observance of rules & regulations, defensiveness & planning, and general skills.

The Maintenance Management Operating System (MMOS) is computerized software to help manage private, commercial and infrastructure. The system ensure that proper preventative maintenance programs are followed, helps track and control inventory and provides reports to control costs.

MTO offers this professional development opportunity to new and existing SAOs, This four-day delivery includes capital and community planning, program planning, financial management, infrastructure management, council governance, and human resource management.

Topics include an overview of the appointments, duties, authorities and powers of Bylaw Enforcement Officers, public speaking, public relations, court procedures, note taking, summary offence ticket and summon preparation, problem solving, the Motor Vehicles Act, and other pertinent topics.

This program is designed to develop a baseline level of competency in Volunteer Basic Ground Search and Rescue.

This training includes a review of effective landfill management practices, and focuses on the knowledge and skills involved in sorting and storing household hazardous waste.  Key Nunavut legislation is addressed. Participants must be able to attend both sessions.

This 2-day course provides an introduction to Search & Rescue techniques specific to ice rescue operations.

This 2-day course provides Facility Operators the opportunity to develop and enhance their skills and abilities in areas that will benefit themselves, their employer (hamlet), their career and the facility they operate.  This training is intended to meet the need for trained operators and efficient operation of swimming pool facilities.

The Lifesaving Society's Bronze Medallion award teaches an understanding of the lifesaving principles embodied in the four components of water rescue education - judgement, knowledge, skill, and fitness.

This program is designed to develop a baseline level of competency in Advanced Level Ground Search and Rescue.  The training is designed for students with advanced responsibilities in a leadership area such as those acting as team leaders or search coordinators.

This course provides an overview of water, wastewater and solid waste with a primary focus on management requirements, legislative regimes, and daily, monthly, semi-annual, and annual operational requirements and standards.

The 5 day Recreation Facility Operators Course will cover 3 basic needs for facility grassroots workers.  The first is for Arena Maintenance including ice painting, the second component will be Life Cycle / Risk Management, understanding the life cycle of your facility and identifying and dealing with risk issues, then it will finish up with a 2 day workshop on Supervisory Skills, where participants will gain an understanding of: managing yourself, managing work, managing people and managing situations.

Participants must be members of the Local Ground Search and Rescue Organization or Senior Search Coordinators in the municipality that are responsible for Ground Search and Rescue coordination and management.
