Introduction to Northern Government
This is a study of the evolution of northern government and Nunavut government in particular. Key sections will look at government in Canada, territorial governments, Aboriginal rights in Canada, Inuit land claims, Self-determination through Nunavut, the Nunavut Government, Community and municipal governments.
- an understanding of the philosophies and ideologies behind the development of western democracies;
- an understanding of the laws that define and create the institutions of government in Canada;
- an understanding of land claims in Northern Canada, their development and current status;
- an ability to describe the issues of Aboriginal self-government and describe various models;
- an understanding of local governments and special purpose bodies in Nunavut.
