From Desks to Desktop: Arctic College and MTO Launch Program to Support Municipal Employees

Training in Nunavut takes a giant leap forward this month as Nunavut Arctic College launches the first of five online courses in the Municipal Training Organization’s (MTO) popular Municipal Government Program (MGP). Building on the successful pilot computer training last winter, the “Introduction to Northern Government” will be delivered online to participants across Nunavut starting November 28th. The course covers the structure, history and operations of territorial and municipal governments in Nunavut.

MTO Board of Directors elect new President

 


The Municipal Training Organization has elected new officers from the Board of Directors who were nominated at the MTO AGM.  The MTO is pleased to announce that Ed Murphy has been elected President.  Mr. Murphy brings a great deal of experience to the MTO and is also the Senior Administrative Officer for the municipality of Arviat.  The MTO looks forward to working with Mr. Murphy in the years to come.

Municipal Government Certificate Specialty Course Program Schedule Released For 2011-12

Municipal Training Organization, in conjunction with Nunavut Arctic College, has released the Municipal Government Certificate Program (MGP) Specialty Course schedule for 2011-12.  These MGP Specialty Courses are streamed to training municipal employees in the fields of Assistant Senior Administration Officer, Works Forman, Community Economic Development Officer, Recreations Leaders, Administrative Assistant, Planning and Lands Administrators, and Finance Officers.  There are a total of 35 courses being offered over the next 3 months at the Arctic College Campus regional centers (

Recreation Facility Operators Course

The Municipal Training Organization is happy to announce with the assistance of Culture, Language, Elders and Youth the inclusion of a Recreation Facility Operators Course in Iqaluit, November 1 to 5, 2011 in our training program this year.

Baffin mayors sound off at GN over poverty
